DAN’S BIO…

If you walk into the front bar of The Corner Hotel in Melbourne, the premier music venue in Australia’s premier music town, you’ll find a gold plaque on the wall that reads, ‘The Dan Warner Room’. Such an accolade is no surprise given that Dan Warner is one of Australia’s most loved and most respected musicians.

Since 2000, Dan has taken his suitcase of well-crafted songs out into the rest of the world. Between 2000 and 2002, Dan lived in New York, where he teamed up with US guitarist, Kevin Garant, and started building a following on the East Coast. Dan & Kev played many memorable shows whilst in NY, including several at Roscoe Ambel’s Lakeside Lounge and even Bob Dylan’s 60th Birthday Bash at The Wetlands.

Dan returned to Australia where he recorded his debut solo album, A Likeness Of You, that was released in his home country last year. A Likeness Of You was received enthusiastically, gaining several positive reviews. Relix magazine in NY dubbed A Likeness Of You, ‘a lucidly soulful study’. The ABC in Australia gushed that ‘Warner’s words… carry the listener away, into a world where conversations, thoughts and emotions swim up and put themselves on show with exquisite choice and timing’.

Dan’s writing skills are the result of several years spent at the musical coalface. His 90s band, The Warner Brothers, was considered a seminal band in the local alt-country scene. Rolling Stone mused The Warner Brothers’ first album, Talking In Your Sleep was ‘as good a debut album as you’re likely to hear’. The Warner Brothers, who later became Overnight Jones owing to a legal stoush, signed to Phonogram Records and embarked upon national tours with the likes of Michelle Shocked and Sheryl Crow. During these years Dan also played long-standing acoustic residencies with guitarist Al MacInnes. Dan & Al would regularly pack in over 300 people at their famous shows at The Great Britain or The Punters Club or The Corner Hotel in Melbourne.

As a solo artist Dan has also been in demand. In late ’05 he toured the UK with former Weddings, Parties, Anything front man, Michael Thomas. Dan also recently opened shows for touring artists such as Bob Geldof and Steve Earle. Dan also works as a singer/instrumentalist, playing live Jen Anderson’s soundtrack for the Australian silent film, The Sentimental Bloke. In 2005 the film played in Venice and London. In 2006 the film will tour to the US, Canada and Japan…

When at home, Dan presents ‘Warner Corner’ each Sunday afternoon on Melbourne’s much-loved community radio station, 3RRR FM.
